About Blue Mackerel
The proposed Blue Mackerel project will play an important role in Australia’s transition to renewable energy. With Victoria’s remaining coal power generation set to retire in the coming years, the need for new and clean energy sources has never been greater.
The project is located off the coast of Brataualung and Tatungalung Country, Gippsland, approximately 10km from the shore, between Seaspray and Woodside. Blue Mackerel received one of Australia’s first offshore wind licences and was the first offshore wind project to have a Management Plan for marine activity approved by the Offshore Infrastructure Regulator.
Subject to further approvals, the project would deliver its planned capacity of 1GW of renewable energy by 2032. That’s enough to provide up to 750,000 Victorian homes with clean power.
